To launch a new writing competition or writers' contest or literary contest or literary award or short story contest (and you will notice I am being advisedly pleonastic in my repetition of keywords such as creative writing, writer, literary, short story, fiction and, not least, contest and competition) is to create a fantasy or sci-fi or even science fiction alternative world in which the big prizes go to the lucky winners who have followed the contest rules, shown finesse in their writing techniques, reified every creative writing tip published since Shakespeare found his first literary agent, and impressed the incorruptible judges with their novel writing skills. However, creative writing success will not by itself attend those canny wordsmiths or afficionados of detective fiction or the mystery story who are atthis moment reading my secret message purposed to be invisible to reading groups, writers' circles and other creative writers not yet versed in the dark mysteries of the highlighting cursor. For writing success, they (you) must first enter the writing competition!
